DIXIE AND ME |
I opened the back door of our car, and Dixie politely waited until I picked her up and put her on the floor behind the driver's seat. She didn't get up on the back seat; she stayed on the floor, a smart move.
I decided to go to the back area, near the softball field. We walked in the shade, then came back so I could sit on the bleachers and watch the kids practicing baseball.
One of the boys came to the fence and praised Dixie. I told him that her two goals in life are to get fed and to get petted. So he came around the fence and petted her. She then laid back, and he rubbed her belly and said she was a good-looking beagle.
He said they go to East Forsyth (Kernersville) Middle School.
Another boy came to the fence and wanted to pet her, but the team's activity bus came up the drive at that moment.
As we were walking to the car, a black SUV came up, and a man and two girls got out with softball equipment. We didn't stay to watch, and Dixie didn't get petted again today.
As soon as we got home, Dixie ran to her water bowl; then she found a spot to cool her belly.
We went again yesterday, but we had no luck with the natives. One guy just hurried into his car and drove off. A couple sat at one of the tables, but the man ignored Dixie and the woman said she wouldn't pet her; didn't want to make her own dog jealous.
(I think she was more concerned about touching a dog while she was eating.)
A bunch of cars went back to the softball field, but it was too hot by then; so we came home.
