Fight blight

Just over a week ago, Lady and I were on the little-dog side at the dog park when a woman came in with her dog (about 40 pounds).

I DON'T HAVE A SHOT OF LADY
 IN A FIGHT (FORTUNATELY).
The dogs got along fine for a few minutes when suddenly the other dog jumped forward and tore into Lady. They fought for several seconds — it felt like minutes — and I was halfway to the dogs when the other owner got her dog under control (she was standing near them).

I don't know why, but I said that Lady is an old dog and can't deal with something like that. The woman looked at me oddly, then put the leash on her dog and left.

I checked Lady for blood or injuries. I didn't find anything, but she did lie behind the bench for a while.

I understand that fights happen, but I was appalled to see an old dog (she'll be 15 in October) be in a fight. Still, I was proud of the way she defended herself.

She's seemed fine since, and we've gone to the dog park most days recently (whether I've posted about it or not).

Note: Lady passed on Sept. 17, 2016.
