Bellowing dog at the dog park

DIXIE GETS ALONG WITH PEOPLE, NOT DOGS.
I have to admit that I haven't enjoyed going to the dog park lately. We went yesterday, and Dixie bellowed at seven dogs (by my count; it could have been more).

She lit into a rottweiler named Chaos (I assume they don't spell it Kaos, like the evil organization on "Get Smart"). The funny thing was that Chaos followed her around, and his owner would chase him down to get him away from her.

At one point, Dixie was bellowing, and I turned and a big brown dog had her pinned to the ground. He wasn't hurting her, just dominating her. His owner quickly got him off her, and we had peace for a few minutes.

Dixie bellows at nearly every dog that approaches her, so she's not enjoying the company of other dogs. Our late dog Lady enjoyed both dogs and people; Dixie likes to be around people. There was a woman there yesterday who recognized me, and she remembered Lady. She complimented Dixie's looks, and she rubbed Dixie over and over. Dixie ate it up.

The best thing was that there were no other dogs around, and she was quiet.

We won't go to the dog park on the weekend; too many dogs. We might go Monday afternoon when there are fewer people ... and dogs.

YELP!

SHE WAS LACY THEN; NOW, SHE'S DIXIE.
Dixie scared me to death today when I was taking her outside. As I got near the kitchen door, I stepped back and heard a tremendous YELP!

It was so loud and forceful that I literally jumped. Dixie skittered off toward the living room after I stepped on her paw. I figured that I couldn't have hurt her too badly, considering how fast she headed into the other room.

I said "Come here, Dixie", and she came running almost instantly. She wasn't badly hurt, and she obviously isn't afraid of me because of it.

Still, I hope she'll learn to stay a little farther back; you never know when I'll lose my balance and have to step back.
