| THE SNOW WASN'T THIS THICK TODAY WHEN LADY AND SCOTTIE WENT OUT INTO THE YARD. THIS IS AN OLD PICTURE. |
I had left the basement door open so that Lady could go downstairs and go through the dog door to do her business. But then I realized our old collie Scottie had gone down, too. He has hind-end problems and can't come back upstairs, and he always gets stuck in the dog door (it's sad to see).
He was stuck when I found him. I pushed him through and opened the cage so the dogs could go into the yard and I could bring Scottie through the yard and back upstairs.
As soon as I opened the cage, I realized that the side gate to the yard was open! In the past, Lady has bolted through the open gate and given us a merry chase through the neighborhood. This time, she ran to the open gate, looked at it and hesitated.
I hollered "Lady, come." Then in a quieter tone, I said, "Come here, Lady." She looked at freedom for a second, turned and ran back into the yard. I fixed up the gate the best I could, went upstairs to get a cap, jacket and Lady's leash, then went to the front gate to get them. We took a short walk in a light and wet snow and came back inside.
They're lying in their usual spots, and I'm happy that I didn't have to run all over the neighborhood for Lady.
Good girl.
(NOTE: If you're wondering, Scottie didn't need a leash.)
Update (Sept. 16): I think Lady's looking forward to cold weather again.
