Fortunately, Lady has usually come back to me, eventually. Only twice did she not come back; once, she was standing looking at a rabbit in a cage; the other time, there was a rooster in a cage. Each time, I grabbed her when she was looking at the animal.
Lady has given me a few wild chases. My favorite memory, though, was seeing Lady in the next yard; I was beside our car port. Lady saw me, perked up, ran to me and, as I bent over, jumped into my arms.
One of the first times she got out, I drove slowly all the way to the main road and didn't see her. On the way home, I was driving up Holmes Road and had the feeling I was being followed. I looked in my mirror, and Lady was charging up the road behind me.
I stopped, but she wouldn't get in. She started cutting through neighbors' yards, so I headed home in her wake. When I got there, my wife Holly had "captured" her with a can of tuna.
She also got free the next day.
Another time, we left the house and someone was supposed to take care of Lady and one of our other dogs. When I got home, Lady was laying in front of the car-port door, waiting for me to come home.
Unfortunately, dogs aren't doing that in the stories given on that web site.
NOTE: Lady passed on Sept. 17, 2016.
