Scottie's down but not out

HERE'S SCOTTIE IN THE SNOW IN 2010.

You may recall my post titled Not much of a leg to stand on. It's about our collie Scottie, who has lost muscle mass in his hind legs and often has trouble getting up.

Similarly, Scottie sometimes goes down into the basement, and he can't get back up the steps. Today, I found the basement door open and went down to find Scottie sitting near the door to the outside. I let him out in the backyard, then went back upstairs.

With Lady in tow, I went out and opened the gate to let Scottie out of the backyard; remember, he can walk on relatively level ground fairly well.

Lady and Scottie nosed around in the backyard a minute or two before I closed the gate, and we took our usual evening constitutional to let them relieve themselves.

Yes, it's a pain in the butt to have to go through this every few days, but I'm just glad Scottie's still getting around.

P.S.: Scottie was put to sleep April 10, 2013, several months after the above post was written. He was weak and hadn't eaten in several days, and he wasn't getting better.

  1. Aww, that's so sweet. Glad to hear Scottie is still able to walk. I love collies! I grew up with collies and miss seeing them around. I think it's simply too hot here in Florida for their beautiful thick coats.

  2. Hi, Lisa. I replied to this through a blog entry called No collies in Florida (http://tg-dog-blog.blogspot.com/2012/10/no-collies-in-florida.html). Thanks for the comment. Tom
